Hummingbird Wars

Who ever thought that hummingbirds can be such aggressive little creatures? As I took a 10 minute break from my studies today :), I went outside and witnessed the most extraordinary event. Two Hummingbirds fighting over the feeder. Although this may seem unimportant and frivolous to some..It caused me to wonder how these little creatures go about solving conflict.

As a middle school teacher I am constantly negotiating conflicts between peer groups. I would like to start a mediation program in my school, and I am researching ideas. Any advice?

I will try and capture a photo of one of the hummingbird's to post. :)

We have two hummingbirds in our yard that fight over one feeder. We have two feeders but apparently the one by the tree belongs to the Ruby Throat!!

We have a feeder on our deck and the hummingbirds see us as a threat too. Sometimes when we go out there they dive bomb us! I have tried to move it but my husband likes to sit at our breakfast table and watch them.

I see a lot of hummingbird fighting at school all the time. And they need some type of program that can help them understand how to communicate with each other better.

I enjoy watching hummingbirds, but unfortunately I don't have a good place to hang a feeder so that I can watch them.

We haven't had any at our feeders this year... Maybe the neighbors offer better food!!

I'm cracking up at Marlon's comment! That's too funny!

Hummingbirds are very territorial. The male will fight off any other birds that show up to feed that aren't in his group of female birds. I could sit for hours and watch the ones that used to feed in my dinning room window. Since that's the place that I usually do my work, I had to move the feeders because I never would get anything done. :)
